Wedding photography – A pre wedding photo shoot is great way to get used to having your photo taken.
As a wedding photographer I usually get told “But I hate having my photo taken!“.
First of all that’s fine because I am well experienced in photographing people either in the studio or at a wedding that are not used to having their photos taken. A lot of the skills of a portrait or wedding photographer is putting people at ease and making them feel relaxed. This is even more important at a wedding when nerves can really come into play. If the photographer makes you feel at ease and relaxed then that will show in the photos. You might have found a photographer that takes great pictures but if them wind you up and make you feel tense then that is really going to show in the final images.
Secondly the majority of my wedding packages include a complimentary pre wedding shoot, most of the time this is in the studio, a nice an controlled environment where you don’t have to worry about the weather! Its a great way to see how I work and experience professional photography before your big day. You’ll also have a free 10″ framed picture to make the event.
One very popular product is a “signature mount”. This is a card mount that will be part of the framed picture. We take an image from the pre-wedding shoot and have it mounted. Then on the day all of your guest can sign the card surround. Finally we either frame this picture or chose a picture from the wedding day. That way you’ll have a great image along with loads of personnel comments from you guests. It’s a fantastic way to make the day.

This is a great idea. You don’t want to get back the pictures from your wedding day and realize that you don’t like your smile! Although even with practice up front, I think I just got physically tired of smiling after so many pictures on the wedding day.
A very informative article and very useful.
What a great idea – thanks for the tip!
Really like that idea! I think I will certainly consider it for “shy” clients. thanks
My client also state – If had no prewedding session – how could we be at the wedding da! Saying prewedding photosessions a re really helpful for couples to relax
I love when people have the pics to sign at the wedding. Its such a cute thing to do instead of a guest book at a wedding. I would definatly recommend doing a pre wedding pic.
I love pre-wedding shoots. I offer them as “Engagement Sessions” and I always encourage them to my couples. It helps me get to know them, then on the wedding day, I’m just one of their friends taking photos. I’m really glad you posted this.
